THE GOODS BLOG: Erika's Precious Little Life - September Edition

I think that this past summer has been the busiest of my life. In all of June, July and August I had been away from home for practically half of the time. And then pretty much the rest of the time we had friends visiting and staying at our place. And it's not over yet.
At the beginning of August, Tim's friend (and mine), AJ was visiting from Halifax and she stayed with us. She was here for Osheaga, which we did not go to this year.
Then I was off to Regina for two weeks! On my way, I had a three hour layover in Calgary, so I was very excited when Lacey agreed to meet me at the airport for a long overdue hangout! It was great to see her and I got to meet 10.5 month old Ava for the first time!
SPECIAL SIDE NOTE: Lacey's husband Dallas has taken a job as the new Chef at Crazyweed, one of my favourite restaurants in Canmore (and in Canada)! Make sure that you go there and enjoy it for yourselves if you're ever in the neighbourhood!!! Lacey and Dallas are also moving to Canmore themselves, which is a total dream come true as far as I'm concerned. They're a perfect example of what grabbing onto your dreams can do - there's always a way to make them happen! So happy for you guys.
Once in Regina, I loved getting to spend as much time with my family as possible, since I hadn't seen them since Christmas. (Tim arrived later on.)
And then the wedding festivities for Enobong began!! First we celebrated her Regina Bridal Shower, which was lovely. And I got to meet 4.5 month old Gavin for the first time, Heather's newest son!
Later that evening, we had Enobong's Bachelorette party, which turned out to just be a group of us high school friends. So THAT was awesome! We hadn't all been out getting up to shenanigans like that together in YEARS! So much fun. And REALLY well planned-out on Sarah's part.
Justin Trudeau was in Regina one day while I was there, making an appearance at the farmers' market. So Sarah (being the giant Liberal that she is) made sure that Katie (her sister) and I went with her to see him. Katie brought her daughter, 1 month old Adalyn. As soon as Trudeau came up to us, I shook his hand and said "Nice to see you! Can you kiss this baby?" Because isn't that what politicians are supposed to do?? He was TOTALLY into it and held Adalyn for a good few minutes, and yes, he did kiss her. There were photographers everywhere, and sure enough, the very next day I found myself on the front page of the Regina Leader-Post. 'Cause that's what I do. Show up in town, get onto the cover of the newspaper... NBD. Ha ha ha!
I also drove up to Saskatoon one afternoon to pay Candice a visit and meet 1 month old Carter! It was such a great visit and I was so glad for us to have some nice one-on-one time together! In conclusion: Everyone that I know has had a baby recently.
Next up on the wedding docket was Enobong and Ian's Traditional Nigerian Ceremony. This was unlike anything that I'd ever seen! I got to wear the most incredible outfit as well. The ceremony took place in three different parts and Enobong had three different outfit changes, with the final one being her bridal outfit. There was tons of dancing! It was such a fascinating event to be a part of!
After that it was the wedding! On the wedding morning, we had our hair and makeup done at Sara Lindsay Makeup Studio, and I was pretty much obsessed with the job that they did on my entire head. HA HA!

The wedding ceremony was wonderful and Enobong looked completely stunning. It was so amazing to be by her side on such an important day in her life. I can't wait to see the photographs from her professional photographer - we did some gooooooood work! The reception was a ton of fun, Tim was the MC, and we danced the night away.

I couldn't be happier for these two. They haven't even known each other for a year, but when it's true love, it's just right.
...And not to miss the ideal Saskatchewan opportunity... There was yoga posin' in a wheat field...
Tim flew to Vancouver for work from Regina, and I went home. Once we were both back at home in Montreal, Tim's friend (and mine), Dave, was visiting from London, Ontario and he stayed with us. The highlight was going to a nice restaurant that we really like called Tuck Shop with him and our "Montreal gang."
Right after Dave left, Curtis arrived! Curtis is Heather's husband, and he needed to come to town from Winnipeg for work. We were happy to have him stay with us! He had never been to Montreal, so we had some fun showing him around. Next time you've gotta come too, Heather!!!
Now we should have a few quiet weeks ahead.
I forgot to share this photo from our trip to Vancouver Island in June. You know how I like to share anything scandalous!!! Ha ha ha! This is from when we were staying in the tree sphere... Free and naked in nature!!
I am now officially off of my birth control and my body has gone rogue. I should get my first period since being off of it this weekend, and I'm pretty curious to see how my body handles things all on its' own.
SEPTEMBER!
The first few weeks of this month should be quiet, which will be really nice. It hasn't been just Tim and I for like a month. This coming weekend is Labour Day long weekend, and we've been tossing around a few ideas of how we could spend it, but I wouldn't be surprised if we spend most of it doing absolutely nothing. There are a few Montreal events over the next few weeks that I'm excited about; First Fridays (food trucks), Naada Fête du Rue (my yoga studio's street-fest birthday party), and Puces POP (my favourite art & craft fair).
Tim is going to Los Angeles for four days around mid-month for a work conference called Story Summit.
HEDLEY is playing a show in Montreal... And I intend to see it. It's kind of a weird thing where they're playing the after-party of some marathon race that is taking place. Which I am not running in. So this may take some sneak-in skills. (Or maybe just a Facebook message to Tom.)
Then I'm leaving for Europe on September 22nd for two weeks!!
What started as Carrie and I having a "crazy idea" at Christmastime is now very, very real. We were daydreaming that we would love to go to a yoga retreat... And now we are. As some of you may not know, Carrie moved to London, England at the beginning of this year. So first of all, I'm heading to London for five days, which I have never been to, and I am SO EXCITED to see it ALL!!! And of course I can't wait to see Carrie! And have adventures with her!! From there, we're both flying to Portugal (never been) and going to a town called Aljezur in the Algarve region (south) of Portugal. The retreat that we are going to is near this town, but more towards the beach. It's called Tipi Valley Surf & Yoga and it's an eco retreat where we sleep in tipi tents and spend all day surfing and doing yoga! So it's a dream come true, essentially. Literally my dream life. We'll be there for five days, on the sea and in the nature. Can't wait. After that (it'll be October at this point) we're heading up to Lisbon, the capital of Portugal for two days. And then I fly home from there!
Tim is planning to go to Muskoka while I'm away, I believe.
October is actually going to be just as crazy, if not more so, but I'll tell you about that next month.

September 6th is Zena Domanski's 40th wedding anniversary!
Hooray! My parents have managed to put up with each other for 40 years of marriage!! That's actually a ridiculously long amount of time, and I feel so fortunate that I've always had such a good example of marriage to look up to. They've always kept it young and fun, and that's exactly what I strive to do. They're celebrating their anniversary dinner at Crazyweed in Canmore, coincidentally!
September 10th is Sarah Tasker's 4th wedding anniversary!
I hope that you and Darren have a wonderful day to celebrate all of the amazing things that you have accomplished in these past four years! I loved your wedding in Toronto in so much!!
September 17th is Sarah Tasker's 33rd birthday!
I am endlessly grateful to have had you as such an important person for practically my whole life. You're my oldest friend and even though we've spent a lot of the time living in different cities, I've always loved how naturally our friendship comes whenever we're together. You've helped shape who I am as a person since the very beginning, mostly with me being a negative influence. Ha ha! I hope that Darren has some exciting plans for you on your day and that Taylor helps too! I miss you! It's been a few months!! I love you tons!!
