THE GOODS BLOG: Erika's Precious Little Life - September Edition

This summer has been a complete whirlwind. Moving across the country on top of having a baby to care for is a lot to say the least. But we’re getting through it. I am a homeless gypsy no longer, and that part is nice - although I’m having a tough time shaking the feeling that I’m on vacation and “just visiting.” I have to remind myself each day that this is just my life now!!
When August began, I was still in Regina. Sarah and Shane’s wedding festivities got into full swing and we spent a ton of time building their wedding! It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun. Plus it meant that I got to spend a ton of quality time with a bunch of you guys. ♥
We celebrated Sarah’s Regina Bachelorette, which was amazing!! We rented a giant party bus and the party was 90s themed. We even went to our high school to take pictures of where our lives in the 90s went down.
The night before the wedding we had a really adorable all-girl slumber party. Super fun!
And then it was the big day and we all got GLAM!!! (As a mom of a baby, this was extra lovely for me. Because I generally live in frumpy clothes covered in baby drool these days, ha ha!) I loved my bridesmaid dress so much and can’t wait to find reasons to wear it again! Everyone looked fabulous. Especially Sarah, of course. Seeing her as a stunning bride was one of the best things ever. ♥
One of my favourite unique touches was that we arrived to the ceremony by boat!!
The ceremony was gorgeous and I had to work hard to keep my emotions in check. It’s just the most wonderful thing when someone who you love and have walked through life with for nearly 20 years has found true love and happiness.
And then of course they did this, because it’s Sarah and she’s the best...
(Only slightly stressed us all out.)
The wedding reception was a total blast and the room turned out so amazingly well. My biggest stress was the MoH speech (this was the FIRST TIME that I’ve ever been a MoH, 3rd time as a bridesmaid) but I think that it went pretty well! We rocked it out hard on the dance floor. I still almost pee my pants thinking about Katie and Jake dancing to S Club 7. Loved getting to dance and have fun with so many of my Regina ladies. Plus Rachelle!
The next day, we were back to normal and looking less glam and more like our usual hippy selves. :P
Tim left to finish his two day drive to Vancouver and I stayed in Regina for a week longer.
It felt like I was in Regina for a long time. I loved seeing and spending time with everyone that I was able to. But I was also anxious to get to Vancouver and get the whole “new life” thing happening. I flew to Vancouver on the 12th with Archie and Ramona! We stayed at Dustin’s place for a few days until we were able to get into our apartment... But we had arrived. I’d been dreaming about moving to the west coast since the first time that I ever set foot here back in 2004... Kinda can’t believe that it finally happened.
Carrie also happened to be in Vancouver at this same time, so it was wonderful to get to spend time with her as well! (Newly engaged, might I add!)
We got our apartment on the 17th and began to move in. This is the 11th place that I have lived in! 11th!!! I would love to stop moving, because I actually hate it. The movers showed up with all of our stuff in a moving truck and moved it all into our apartment. They also unpacked some of it. Honestly, it all ended up in a giant mess everywhere, and we are still unburying ourselves. I dislike it. In the past, I would have had the whole place DONE in two weeks, tops. Pictures hung on the walls, everything. But now with a baby, I simply do not have that kind of productivity time. It bums me out. But it’s slowly getting there. The apartment is very cool though, and we love it.
Tim is really loving his new job and is super happy there. I spend my days wandering around the neighbourhood and getting to know the place. It’s a super awesome area of the city and I super, super love living by the beach. I go to the beach practically every day.
I even went and saw a band that I like called San Cisco and got to meet them! :D
(Again, mama’s still got it. Ha ha ha!)
But most of all, I have LOVED getting to spend time with my west coast babes. I didn’t mind not having close friends in Montreal, but now that I’ve moved to a place where they’re already built-in... I feel extremely fortunate. I’m so excited for this new chapter of friendship that I get to share with them. ♥
And even more of you guys got to meet Archie!!
Life with Archie:
Archie turned SEVEN MONTHS old!
His interests include: Pulling himself up to standing, rocking back and forth in a crawl position, and drinking water from a cup.
His favourite member of the family is Ramona and she hates him.
(Just kidding. I’m totally his favourite. But only because I’ve got the boobs.)
He is extremely mobile now and just wants to be put down so that he can explore. He isn’t quite crawling yet, but gets around just fine doing an army-style crawl. He gets up onto his hands and knees all the time, but doesn’t really understand how to get his arms and legs to work together. He sits up completely by himself now, but can’t go from lying down to sitting on his own yet. Changing his diaper/clothes is super challenging now because he just barrel rolls the entire time.
From sitting, he can pull himself up to standing, and he loves doing that! Now that he knows what standing is, he wants to stand as much as possible.
And we’ve finally gotten into eating in a big way! We bought Archie his own chair and HE LOVES FOOD!!! (But I mean... Of course he does.) We give him some of whatever we’re eating at dinnertime, and he picks it all up and shoves it into his mouth. He hasn’t disliked anything. He has eaten everything from pasta (spaghetti & macaroni), various types of cheese, eggs (whites & yolks), yogurt, bread, sea asparagus, rare seared tuna, broccoli, mushrooms, hanger steak, bacon, tomatoes, pancetta, rice, peanut butter, shrimp, pickles, meatloaf, smoked salmon, avocado... He just wants it ALL. Even spicy foods. And all sorts of textures. I think it’s safe to say that he doesn’t have any food allergies. I really hope that he says eating this way forever!! #ArchieEatsEverything
We’ve had a few challenging nights with Archie’s sleep. He used to sleep through the night really well, but all of the recent changes seem to have discombobulated him a bit. Probably the time difference, different homes and beds, plus all of the new things that he’s been experiencing. He had been waking up and crying a lot at night, which was stressful and annoying. But he has gotten a lot better now that we’ve settled in and he’s in a more set routine. He seems to have learned how to self-soothe a lot better and can put himself back to sleep. On the plus side, we were up so early last weekend that we got to see a really incredible sunrise, ha ha.
And now it’s freakin’ September which sounds like the fall, and I have no idea where summer went.
My parents are arriving in Vancouver TODAY to visit. Here’s the thing: In their 66 years of life, THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN TO VANCOUVER OR THE WEST COAST EVER!!! The most west that they have ever been is Kelowna. So this is a big deal. They are about to find out what they have been missing out on. I feel as if I’m saving them in a way. Saving them from themselves. HA HA HA. They are going to be staying for a week and we’re also taking them to Vancouver Island for two nights (Qualicum Beach). I am beyond excited to go to the island, since it’s one of my most favourite places in the world. ♥
And Amy is going to be in town this coming week!!
After that, the month is mostly appointments with new health professionals and continuing to get this nightmare apartment mess under control. The Vancouver Fringe is also happening, so I’m sure that I’ll check out some of that! I can’t wait to just be settled and doing nothing but enjoying my new life. (And getting hard back into yoga.)

September 17th is Sarah Tasker’s 35th birthday!
I hope that it’s a special day full of fun and spoilings from Darren! I’m so sad that I’m so far away from you again. :( But this just means that you’ll have to come and visit!!
