HE WALKS!
That is all. :P
This is five days late because we were away for the long weekend. I can’t believe that August has come and gone. WTF. I guess it’s fall now? It feels like the summer flew by and was over in a blink, but then again when I think back to all of the stuff that we did this summer, there was a lot. August began with my parents visiting from Regina! They were in town for over a week and I loved having them here. Archie loved spending time with his grandparents and I got to go to so many yoga classes!!

We all enjoyed tons of Vancouver fun. (Float spa, Granville Island, celebrated my Mom’s birthday, hiked at Lynn Canyon, POKE, watched fireworks, Pride Parade, ate at tons of restaurants, rented bikes and biked around Stanley Park, Kits Pool, Vancouver Aquarium, Third Beach.) Speaking of the float spa, have you guys ever gone to do that?!? You have to!!! I was like “this is going to be a long 90 minutes...” and then I left the planet and went off to another dimension and about 30 seconds later it was all over.

After their visit the month was fairly quiet. We tried to get together with friends and also spend more chill times. We also tried to encourage Archie’s walking a lot. He really enjoys pushing things, so we got into the habit of letting him push his own stroller around everywhere!

We’ve also now lived in Vancouver for ONE YEAR! I’m not sure if we’re entirely settled in yet, ha ha. Having moved so many times in my life to different cities, I usually find that it takes about two years before I really feel as if I’ve arrived and have integrated myself. It does feel less like we’re “just visiting” though.
These faves came to Vancouver from Edmonton!

We had a nice adult dinner with Erin and Josh at Vij’s!

I had a seance on my balcony with my rocks, HA HA HA. (But really, the little things that I do for self-care go a long way. Just trying to keep everything sane all up in here!)

Life with Archie:
Archie now weighs 23.5 pounds and has 16 teeth. (All that he has left to get now are the very back molars on the top and bottom.)
He is majorly into anything that rolls. Especially toy cars but even just cylindrical objects that can be rolled. He loves turning wheels and pretending to drive. He can point to and identify lots of different objects when we name them (motorcycle, airplane, banana, frog, ball, cat, dog, duck, etc.). He knows what everything is but he can’t say most of the words himself. He loves climbing; up play structures, up stairs. He goes down slides all by himself. He still eats everything and his current favourites are; tuna sandwiches, blueberries, sushi and BBQ.

And of course the biggest thing of all is that ARCHIE FINALLY STARTED WALKING!!! At 19 months old. When he first started he wasn’t walking all that confidently and his walk was mostly a cautious shuffle. But after about a week he started doing really well at it. I can definitely tell that he finally sees the benefit of walking and that he prefers to be upright as opposed to getting down to crawl. THANK FREAKIN’ GOODNESS!!! I know that everyone says “enjoy it while he’s crawling! Things will be crazy when he walks!” but I would much rather have him walking and not have to feel like he isn’t progressing properly and that it’s somehow my fault. It’s also quite difficult to go to a lot of places/do a lot of things when all he can do is crawl around. In many cases I would have no other option but to carry him. If anything, I feel like him walking will make my life much easier and will help me to enjoy parenting more. I almost can’t believe that we finally got here!!! When I see him walking around I still can’t believe it!

His specialist appointment went really well. First of all, I was mistaken, he did not go to the Infant Development Program, he was simply seeing a Pediatrician at this point. Tim came to the appointment as well because after the last one (and the meltdown that ensued) I really wanted him to be there. I really liked the Pediatrician a lot! He was hip and young and looked a lot like Dan Levy. He was super friendly and went over all of Archie’s abilities and progress. He said that there’s nothing wrong with him and basically that he’s just a late bloomer in some areas. He said that it wouldn’t hurt to have (another) hearing test done and to see different specialists about his walking and talking. But this all sounded much more like a “might as well check it out and take advantage of the resources” situation and far less serious or dire. Most reliving (and beneficial to my sanity) is that he told us that we are doing a great job and that we aren’t doing anything wrong. I definitely needed to hear that. Overall, the entire appointment was very positive and optimistic and I feel a million times better about the whole situation. (It was also nice that Archie had begun walking the day before the appointment, so we were able to share that news with the Pediatrician.)
What’s on for September!
We spent the long weekend camping (in a tent!) on Vancouver Island! We were originally supposed to camp for three nights but ended up doing only two nights in the end. I’ll talk more about this next month.
The Vancouver Fringe Festival is starting this week and I’m looking forward to checking out as many shows as possible! I’m going to try to get to about six of them.
We’re going to the Chvrches concert later in the month.
And that’s really it! It’s a fairly low-key month.
THIS MONTH’S SHOUT-OUTS!:
September 6th is Zena Domanski’s 43rd wedding anniversary!

Their first anniversary in their new home! I think that this is the 5th place that they’ve lived - which isn’t many in 43 years! (What is my life??) Way to keep it tight, guys! ♥
September 10th is Sarah Tasker’s 7th wedding anniversary!

Send the kids elsewhere and go do something special together! You guys are the best and we loved sharing your wedding with you. ♥
September 17th is Sarah Tasker’s 36th birthday!

I had so much fun seeing you this summer and I love so much that after 30 years nothing has stood in the way of our friendship. We’re lifers and it’s amazing. I hope that Darren and the kids spoil you a ton and that you get to enjoy your special day! And I can’t wait to see you again next month!! :D
