THE GOODS BLOG: Erika's Precious Little Life - October Edition
Updated: Jun 18, 2021
Helllllooooo! This is a bit late because I have been dealing with phone drama. (Not that I write this on my phone.) But I’ve been annoyingly distracted by this situation. It’s a little bit depressing how much of my life’s happiness is clearly tied up within my phone. In case you didn’t hear, my iPhone 6 got SPLASHED BY A GIANT WAVE (west coast problems) and broke forever. It was supposed to outlive us all. So I replaced it with an iPhone 7, which has been mostly annoying. (Didn’t want to spend that money. Don’t want to “learn a new phone.” Don’t want to transfer all of my stuff over (although thankfully I backup often!!). Plus I’m in some goddamn Apple ID recovery mess right now, which means that I can’t use any of my apps, although I do still have phone and text. Plus they only had black phones and my old one was gold and pretty.) Anyway. Blah. Stress.
I realize that the world has REAL problems.
At the beginning of September my parents came to visit and also visited Vancouver and the west coast for their first time ever! Momentous!! We also took a mini trip with them to Vancouver Island (Qualicum Beach), a place that I love.

It’s a tiny beach town and I love it so much. It was my third time visiting, and what I appreciate the most about it is that it’s always the same, exactly how I’d left it. It’s nice to have comfortingly beautiful places to go back to. I loved getting to share it with Archie for the first time. ♥

We did all of the things that we love; including visiting the goats on the roof and the big trees.

I hope that my parents enjoyed the west coast life, but most of all I think they just liked hanging out with their grandson. ♥

Amy came to Vancouver for a visit from Edmonton, which was wonderful because I literally haven’t seen her in way too long, which has been awful. I hadn’t even met her daughter yet!!

And then later, Susan also came to Vancouver from Edmonton! Lovely friend visits!!

So happy to have more of my beloved people meet Archie. ♥

I signed up for my unlimited yoga membership at a studio called Semperviva, and I’ve been getting back into it pretty hard. I feel so much better and more like myself. It’s very obvious to me that I can be a better mother and wife to my family when I take the time to care about myself. For me, yoga is a big part of that. I feel very strongly that every mother needs to have her own “stuff.” Hooray for sanity!!

We’ve spent the last little while enjoying Vancouver as much as possible while the weather is still really nice. There hasn’t been very much rain since we got here, so it’s been really great getting to know our new city and neighbourhood. We’re very happy and still surprised that this is where we live now. You’d think that it would be more sunken in by now!

The west coast life is suiting us very well.
Life with Archie:
Archie turned EIGHT MONTHS old!
His interests include: Crawling & exploring, barrel rolling as we attempt to change his diaper/clothes, and eating all sorts of solids.

We got a little spooked one night and took Archie to the hospital because his breathing seemed a bit raspy. I was sure that it was nothing, but it was too late in the evening to go to a regular clinic, so we figured the peace of mind would be worth it. In the end, it totally was nothing. It was funny though, because this doesn’t look like the face of a baby who requires medical attention, ha ha.

I also learned how to do a back carry with my wrap, which makes things so much easier and more wonderful in my day-to-day life! Archie seems to love it!

Archie still doesn’t have any teeth, but I can feel one of the center bottom ones about to come though. I think it’ll be out sometime this week. Then he’ll finally have one little snaggletooth!
We have also made great strides in the realm of daytime naps. He used to fall asleep on top of me during the day, pinning me to the couch for hours. Which wasn’t so bad, because I would watch TV and use my computer during that time. But now he naps in his crib which allows for a lot more freedom! He takes two naps a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and I literally put him in his crib while he’s awake, give him a pacifier, close the curtains, turn on the sound machine, and close the door. And he sleeps! He just falls asleep! This feels like some sort of revelation or miracle to me.
Things happening in October include:
Thanksgiving! We’re just going to stay home and enjoy a nice and peaceful long weekend. We’re going to make an entire turkey dinner as well!
It’s Tim’s birthday this month!! We’re going to have a little party for him with all of our Vancouver friends at a BBQ restaurant. Yum.
I’m signed up to attend a special yoga class with a celebrity teacher whom I admire from NYC; Kathryn Budig! I read her book, so I’m very excited to get to practice with her.
And Halloween!! Archie’s first! Totally going to dress him up and take him trick or treating! The best part is that Tim and I will get to eat his candy. HA HA!! It’s a whole candy-getting scheme!!
Mostly, I’m just happy to enjoy a bit of down-time, which this fall is seeming to offer to us quite nicely.
THIS MONTH’S SHOUT-OUTS!:
October 7th is Colen Quinn’s 10th wedding anniversary!

Bahhh!!! 10 YEARS!!! HOW?!? This still feels like only a short time ago. You and Jeff have been through a lot and certainly must celebrate the incredible marriage that has gotten you through it all. Open the good bubbly. ♥
October 13th is Kristen Smith’s 5th wedding anniversary!
Wishing you and Dallas a special day to celebrate each other! You both have accomplished so much and I admire the lovely life that you two have created under not-so-typical circumstances! ♥
October 24th is Rachelle Spence’s 33rd birthday!

I can’t say enough about this beautiful soul. I don’t know what I ever did to be lucky enough to have you. Please be my sister-wife and raise my child. I love you more than words can say and I am SO DAMN PROUD AND ECSTATIC that you are finally living your nurse life at long last!!! I cannot wait for you to show me everything in Red Deer!!! (Is there more than donuts?! I need to know!) February is too far away, so please just drive to Vancouver this weekend. See you then. ♥
