THE GOODS BLOG: Erika's Precious Little Life - July Edition

This is a few days late because I haven’t been at home! I am doing much, much better in terms of my vertigo. I would say that I’m at 99.9%. I feel completely normal for the most part except for the odd, random wave (but even those happen almost never). THANK GOODNESS, because that entire episode was completely terrible. It really opened my eyes to how important it is to appreciate every single day, even the boring ones. Feeling good and “normal” is such a gift that not everyone gets to enjoy. Thankfully for me, I only had to deal with a few compromised weeks. I really hope that it never happens again.

At the beginning of June (man, that month flew by!) Rachelle was still in Vancouver visiting.

Once Rachelle left, Carrie was still around for a while longer and we had lots of great quality hangs and general summertime fun.

Bromance.

We sorted out our car situation and bought a new car! This is my 5th new car in life! We decided to buy a Hyundai IONIQ Electric Plus, which is a plug-in hybrid. It has a gas engine as well as an electric plug. There are lots of places around our neighbourhood where we can charge our car for free so now we can operate our car entirely for free! We’re able to do this for all of our regular city driving. (We usually charge it all the way up once a week.) For longer roadtrips we can still rely on gasoline. We are so happy with this entire situation!

Getting the juice!!!

We had a pretty low-key Father’s Day but it was still a really nice family day together at the beach.

Obviously on International Yoga Day I did this.

Then we left on our summer mountain getaway! It was so much fun. First we drove to Clearwater where we stayed in an adorable Airbnb (with animals!) and discovered a really incredible BBQ restaurant (so good that I added it to my “Worldwide Faves” on my website!).

Hop N Hog

Then we continued on to Jasper and of course it was just wonderful to be there again. It’s such a familiar place for us and everything was exactly how we’d left it. (Except that they have a yoga studio now!) We loved staying at the same cabins as we did for our wedding and we had a really great 5th anniversary, revisiting all of our wedding locations.

The exact spot where we were married, exactly five years prior!

Anniversary dinner at Evil Dave's (which is where we held our Rehearsal Dinner).

The super special thing that we did was an anniversary photo shoot. We’ve decided that we are going to do this every five years... Forever. We are going to put on all of our wedding clothes every time! I love the idea of getting to put my dress on again over the years, for my whole life! We hired our exact same wedding photographers (they love the idea of this project) to take the photos and I can’t wait to see them and to share!

Archie was in a tiny matching suit to Tim's!!

Then we drove down to Canmore, which is a very beautiful drive through the mountains. I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance. We arrived at Lacey’s house and had great visits with her! It was also Canada Day!

Lacey got to meet Archie for the first time! <3

Lastly, we drove to the Shushwaps and stayed at a super adorable cabin near Lake Mara. This was also an Airbnb and we loved it!! There was no electricity and it was very rustic in the best possible way. The entire trip was everything that we love!!

Life with Archie:

Archie is a little adventure boy and he’s doing great. Currently, his main goal in life is to climb everything. Everything. He is so confident and fearless. He now often stands without holding onto anything but still hasn’t taken any steps. Now that he has figured out the standing part I can only assume that the steps aren’t far behind??

He now has thirteen teeth and has added the word “banana” to what he can say. He says “moo” when you ask him what a cow says and he holds up one finger when you ask him how old he is. He also does downward dog pose when asked! He has a lot of other words that he thinks are words but that we don’t understand. He claps after we finish singing him songs and we can name lots of body parts and he’ll point to them. And he knows how to give an eskimo kiss. It’s all pretty freakin’ adorable!

I’m a bit concerned at the speed that this summer is already passing by.

Our big neighbourhood party, the Khatsahlano Street Party is this weekend and I’m really excited about checking it out! It’s ten blocks long!

Then Melanie is coming to visit from Toronto for a few days!

Then Lacey is coming to visit from Canmore for a few days!

And then we leave on our summer trip to Muskoka/Toronto on the 20th. First we’re spending five days at the family cottage with the whole Golem crew (all five cousins together for the first time!). Then we’ll be spending four days in Toronto with my TO friends! (I’m extremely excited about the fact that I have a reservation at Alo, the #1 restaurant in the country!! Just getting a reservation alone was terrifying.) Super looking forward to all of that!!

THIS MONTH’S SHOUT-OUTS!:

July 5th is Candice Weingartner’s 36th birthday!

Wishing you the most glorious day with your boys! I hope that Ryan spoils you a ton! Whenever I think of your birthday, I imagine you floating on a lake wearing sunglasses and with a cocktail in hand. I hope that this is correct!! You’ve always been such a strong and supportive friend to me and I appreciate you so much. I hope that we’ll see each other soon because it has been too long! ♥

July 8th is Crystal Maffenbeier’s 36th birthday!

I hope that the whole fam goes out of their way to do something special for you on your special day and that Jared finds a way to spoil you! I love that we’ve managed to see each other all over the country and I hope that you make it out to BC soon! I love the long friendship that we share. ♥

July 15th is Robin Checkowy’s 36th birthday!

You definitely deserve a special birthday, especially now that you’re a mother of three!! I’m sure that Noel will find a way to spoil you! Take some time for yourself to relax and to do something that you love. I’m so happy to be a part of your life and that we can support each other along the way. ♥

July 26th is Nadine Ottenbreit’s 4th wedding anniversary!

This was such a fun wedding that I will always remember! I hope that you and Kyle can get away to celebrate and to have some romance!
