THE GOODS BLOG: Erika's Precious Little Life - April Edition

Things are so much better, happier, and easier!!! It feels as if we’ve emerged from a dark cave (the spring-like weather helps to enhance this). Archie is two months old and we’re all in a really good place. This must be the point where having a baby starts to get more fun! Taking care of him is much less tedious and we’ve established a great routine that seems to work for everyone. Archie and I have been attending regular Mom+Baby Postnatal yoga classes and it has been a lot of fun! He really seems to enjoy watching me move around above him on the mat. We go every Friday afternoon!
Tim’s parents came to visit us for a week. It was nice to have them meet their grandchild for the first time!
Tim’s latest video game; Mass Effect: Andromeda was released! Unfortunately the reviews haven’t been as good as they were supposed to be. Tim is very frustrated because he put so much work into it (I’m still super proud of him). So he’s been in one of his moods lately where he’s “fed up with BioWare” and wants to look for work elsewhere. We’ll see if anything comes from it. Part of me wouldn’t be surprised if we stayed in Montreal indefinitely... But on the other hand, I know that he’s applying to companies in Toronto, Vancouver and Seattle. He has also been headhunted recently for a company in London, England. So we’ll see if anything comes from any of that.
Archie had his first road trip! We took him to the family cottage in Muskoka, which is about a six hour drive away. He was pretty chill about it! We stopped to feed him a couple of times along the way and he didn’t seem to mind the car journey very much.
The cottage was a lot of fun as per usual! Archie got to meet more aunts and uncles! And cousins! (I was mistaken about all of the babies being there. Jeff & Mya were in Florida with Madison, so they weren’t at the cottage.)
We also got to meet our newest niece, Laura, for the first time as well! Babies everywhere!

Once we got back home, Rachelle arrived from Edmonton for a visit!! I was so excited to see her!
It was the most wonderful thing to have her meet and love Archie. ♥
We spent her visit mostly hanging out with the baby, but also EATING of course!!! I missed her so much!
Life with Archie:
Archie turned TWO MONTHS old!
His interests include: Smiling and making baby sounds at Tim and I, sitting up so that he can see things, and trying to eat his own hand.
As of his most recent weigh-in, he is now at 11lbs. But that was a while ago, so he’s probably quite a bit more by now.
Now that breastfeeding is under control and I can feed him normally everything is so much better. He eats every three hours throughout the day and we’ve got a nice little routine going. One of my major goals was to make sure that Archie could take a bottle and it has been no trouble at all. He gets one bottle feed per day which Tim gives to him. At first we were all worried that if I was in the same room while Archie was having his bottle, that he wouldn’t want it. But he really couldn’t care less! I pump my breast milk twice a day so that we have enough for his feeding each day, but also so that I can save up a stash. I now have over two litres of frozen boob milk in the freezer! This is so that I’ll be able to leave Archie with Tim for a few days if I want to and he’ll have plenty of breast milk to eat. It makes me so happy that he’ll still get the boob juice AND I don’t necessarily have to be tied to him at all times.
Archie got his first round of vaccinations and he took them like a champ! It was two injections and one oral medication. He absolutely loved the oral one (which was apparently banana flavoured) and he only cried for about a minute after the needles. I might be pretty hippy-like in many ways, but I sure ain’t no anti-vaxx psycho. :P
Archie also rolled over for the first time! He has done it twice now, and Rachelle saw the second one, so I know that I didn’t hallucinate it. Ha ha. He’s not able to do it all time yet though. He’s working on perfecting it!
We are also really lucky with how well Archie sleeps at night. He has always been really good about it right since the beginning, but it’s even better now. He gets his last meal of the night (the bottle) at 8:30pm and then he falls asleep. He’ll then usually stay asleep until about 2-3am, so about 5-6 hours. His record has been an 8 hour stretch! After he eats during the night he goes right back to sleep. Even if he’s wide awake, we just put him back in his bassinet and he’ll fall asleep by himself after a few minutes without crying. Then he’ll sleep until about 6am, eat, and go back to sleep again. We’re counting ourselves very lucky!
April should be a totally low-key month for us, which I’m pretty relieved about. March was pretty busy and May is going to be busy also, so it’s nice to have a break in between.
For Easter we’re going to have brunch at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello! It’s about an hour and a half away from Montreal, towards Ottawa. We’re meeting Laura and Matt there! I’m super looking forward to that.
My yoga studio has two celebrity yogis coming in; Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman, and I’m going to be taking a special two hour class instructed by them! Very excited.
That’s really it for the month, so pretty quiet. The down-time will be nice.

April 10th is Amy Bull’s 32nd birthday!
I miss you way too much!!! This photo is so awesome. So much has happened since then. Like two entire humans. All I want to do is hug you for 10 minutes and not let go. Hopefully Ray will do so on my behalf, otherwise I’m sure that Rachelle or Nicole will. Giggling at 3am about clowns and doors is the BEST. You’re in my heart always. ♥
April 18th is Colen Quinn’s 35th birthday!
This was such an incredibly fun day! It goes without saying that you are beyond special to me (siamese brain children forever). I hope that Jeff has some big plans for you! I can’t wait to see you and I hope that it’s very soon!! I love you so much always! ♥
