2019 Thoughts, Resolutions, Re-caps, Bests

It’s that time! My annual blog of thoughts regarding the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020! I cannot believe that TWENTY YEARS have passed since it was Y2K.

New Year's Eve 2000

As always to kick things off, here are, in my opinion, THE *BESTS* OF 2019:

BEST ALBUM: My Name is Michael Holbrook - MIKA

(Released: October 4, 2019)

Honourable mentions (in order of release) go to:

Phantoms - Marianas Trench (Released: March 1, 2019)

Skin & Earth Acoustic - LIGHTS (Released: July 26, 2019)

This Warm December: A Brushfire Holiday Volume 3 - Various Artists (Released: November 22, 2019)

BEST MOVIE: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

(Released: July 26, 2019)

Honourable mentions (in order of release) go to:

Booksmart (Released: May 24, 2019)

Rocketman (Released: May 31, 2019)

Hustlers (Released: September 13, 2019)

Marriage Story (Released: November 6, 2019)

BEST (new to me) TORONTO RESTAURANT THAT I TRIED: Adamson Barbecue

(The most incredible Texas-style barbecue ~ 176 Wicksteed Avenue)

Honourable mentions (in alphabetical order) go to:

Descendant Detroit Style Pizza (Delicious Detroit-style pizza ~ 1168 Queen Street East)

PAI (Northern Thai food ~ 18 Duncan Street)

Rolltation (Sushi burritos! ~ 207 Dundas Street West)

When The Pig Came Home (The most “Toronto” deli in Toronto ~ 3035 Dundas Street West)

BOOKS THAT I READ IN 2019:

French Kids Eat Everything by Karen Le Billon

The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero & Tom Bissell

I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella

Crystal Muse by Heather Askinosie & Timmi Jandro

My favourite book of the year!

I hope that if you give any of my picks a try that you'll love them as much as I do!!

IN 2019 I TRAVELED TO THESE PLACES:

Vancouver, British Columbia

Whistler, British Columbia

Regina, Saskatchewan X 2

Montreal, Quebec X 2

Muskoka, Ontario X 3

London, Ontario X 4

Buffalo, New York, USA

Tobermory, Ontario

Sandbanks, Ontario

Collingwood, Ontario

Tisdale, Saskatchewan

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

My favourite destination of the year was our trip to Whistler, British Columbia. I experienced one of the very best snowboarding days of my life. Riding on Whistler Mountain on a bluebird pow day made for the most incredible time with beyond perfect conditions.

IN 2019 I SAW THESE BANDS PLAY LIVE:

LEEDS

Passion Pit

Stars X 2

Alvvays

San Cisco

My favourite concert of the year was LEEDS because getting to see Royston Langdon (the lead singer of Space Hog) live was a really special experience for me. Space Hog was my favourite band during my teenage years and imagining myself listening to their album just up the road in Scarborough while I watched Roy in real life felt very surreal.

WEDDINGS THAT WE ATTENDED IN 2019:

None!

FAMILY/FRIENDS WHO HAD BABIES IN 2019:

Sarah & Shane had Blake on March 23, 2019!

Nadine & Kyle had Brady on August 12, 2019!

Melanie & Ron had Lucas on September 30, 2019!

Mya & Jeff had Mackenzie on November 22, 2019!

And of course... RESOLUTIONS... First let's see how I did with my 2019 resolutions:

~ Find calm, peace and serenity in all areas of my life. Everything needs to settle and I need to return to myself. Self-care is going to be a very high priority.

~ Make a firm decision about whether or not to have a second child.

~ Find a new yoga home!

~ Settle into life as a Torontonian!

~ Visit the Maritimes for the first time ever.

I feel pretty positive about how this all turned out. It wasn’t perfect but I did well. The most important thing to me was getting to a place where I could give myself the things that I needed while settling into life in a new city. I feel that we really succeeded in this area and I feel very comfortable in the way that we’re living our life. I love my new Toronto yoga studio too! I’m not sure if we’ll ever feel 100% about a second child since there’s always that little voice that asks “what if?” But for the most part I think that we know what we want in this area. We never made it to the Maritimes, unfortunately. I hope that this happens someday.

This leads me to... 2020 RESOLUTIONS/GOALS:

~ Make more time for nature and being outdoors.

~ Prioritize and value the balance that I require (IE: yoga).

~ Fix/tidy/organize the basement.

~ Drink more water! 2.2L per day!

~ Find balance in life while requiring less.

I'm wishing everyone a wonderful 2020 and an amazing new decade! Don't dream it, be it!
