Eat Every Roll at The Eatery: Day 10
My personal favourite sushi restaurant in Vancouver is The Eatery in Kitsilano. (You'll find it featured in the Worldwide Faves section of this blog!) I like it because it's super unique, an amazingly fun atmosphere, casual, not too expensive, located in my neighbourhood... And most of all because the sushi is funky, innovative and exciting! It's a sushi party every time and you're invited!!
The best thing on the menu is their rolls. They offer sixty nine different rolls to choose from!!! Each one is very interesting and far from your average roll. Recently, it occurred to me what I must do. I must try every single one of their funky sushi rolls. I am going to visit The Eatery once a week (Sushi Sunday!), order four rolls each time, and keep doing so until I have tried them all. My husband is going to help with this project in order to provide a second opinion. Sushi Sunday: Day 10
Magic Mushroom ~ Grilled asparagus with shittake mushrooms. I liked the flavour of the mushroom a lot. But the asparagus was supposed to be grilled and it was not. Erika: 3/5 ~ Tim: 3/5 ~ AVERAGE: 3/5 Prawn Crunch ~ Cooked ebi, tempura bits, cucumber, hot sauce. I enjoyed this one the most. The heat was just right and the crunch was very good. Erika: 3.5/5 ~ Tim: 3.5/5 ~ AVERAGE: 3.5/5 Philadelphia ~ Salmon, cream cheese, avocado, topped with smoked salmon & masago. Liked the salmon and cream cheese but overall it lacked in flavour. Was supposed to have masago on top and it didn't. Erika: 2.5/5 ~ Tim: 3/5 ~ AVERAGE: 2.75/5 Paper Crane ~ Tuna tempura, avocado, scallop and salmon wrapped in a soybean sheet. The tuna was not tempura'd like the menu says. That would've made this much more interesting and given it a better texture. But I liked the ingredients. Erika: 3/5 ~ Tim: 3.5/5 ~ AVERAGE: 3.25/5 This round was a bit of a let-down because none of the rolls seemed to have been made correctly. Keep following along to find out which rolls will end up in our sushi hall of fame!
