Morel mushrooms are the most desired and elusive mushrooms around, especially to buy fresh. You often need to "know a guy" who forages them and to keep an eye on when they're available. You'll rarely see them in a regular grocery store because they are found in the wild and not farmed. They're more of a farmers' market situation. Why should you put this much effort into acquiring them? Because morel mushrooms are the best! They're delicious. The best news? You can get them in Vancouver right NOW!!!

Head to the Trout Lake Farmers Market, every Saturday from 9am-2pm and find a vendor called Wild Foraged. They will hook you up! I recommend arriving early because if past experience is any indication, they tend to sell out quickly.

They are currently being sold for $10 per container (and bonus; they've got fiddleheads too!) I excitedly grabbed some yesterday and my husband prepared one of our favourite dishes; cacio e pepe. It's a dish from Rome and it's essentially an Italian mac & cheese made with Grana Padano or Parmesan, Pecorino and freshly cracked black pepper. We love elevating this simple dish with butter-fried morel mushrooms.

Get them while you can and live your best life!! They never seem to be available for very long!
